چکیده
Abstract The search for biosignatures on exoplanets connects the fields of biology and biochemistry to astronomical observation, with hope that we might detect evidence active biological processes worlds outside solar system. Here focus a complementary aspect exoplanet characterization connecting astronomy prebiotic chemistry: molecules associated origin life, prebiosignatures. Prebiosignature surveys in planetary atmospheres offer potential both constrain ubiquity life galaxy provide important tests current syntheses laboratory setting. Here, quantify minimum abundance identified prebiosignature would be required detection by transmission spectroscopy using JWST. We consider prebiosignatures five classes terrestrial planets: an ocean planet, volcanic post-impact super-Earth, early-Earth analog. Using novel modeling test pipeline, simulated JWST noise, find thresholds hydrogen cyanide ( HCN ), sulfide (H 2 S), cyanoacetylene (HC 3 N), ammonia (NH methane (CH 4 acetylene (C H sulfur dioxide (SO nitric oxide (NO), formaldehyde O), carbon monoxide (CO) variety low-mean-molecular-weight (<5) atmospheres. dependence these M dwarf target star number observed transits, finding modest transits (1–10) are numerous candidate planets, including TRAPPIST-1e high-mean-molecular-weight atmosphere. Exoplanet Atmospheres and Photochemistry
Over 150 extrasolar planets are known to orbit sun-like stars. A growing number of them (9 to date) are transiting “hot Jupiters” whose physical characteristics can be measured. Atmospheres of two of these planets have already been detected. We summarize the atmosphere detections and useful upper limits, focusing on the MOST albedo upper limit and H exosphere detection for HD209458b as the most...
متن کاملExoplanet atmospheres: A theoretical outlook
With over two dozen exoplanet atmospheres observed today, the field of exoplanet atmospheres is solidly established. The highlights of exoplanet atmosphere studies include: detection of molecular spectral features; constraints on atmospheric vertical temperature structure; detection of day-night temperature gradients; and a new numerical approach to atmosphere temperature and abundance retrieva...
متن کاملCan lies be detected unconsciously?
People are typically poor at telling apart truthful and deceptive statements. Based on the Unconscious Thought Theory, it has been suggested that poor lie detection arises from the intrinsic limitations of conscious thinking and can be improved by facilitating the contribution of unconscious thought (UT). In support of this hypothesis, Reinhard et al. (2013) observed improved lie detection amon...
متن کامل6 Can Gravitons Be Detected ?
Freeman Dyson has questioned whether any conceivable experiment in the real universe can detect a single graviton. If not, is it meaningful to talk about gravitons as physical entities? We attempt to answer Dyson’s question and find it is possible concoct an idealized thought experiment capable of detecting one graviton; however, when anything remotely resembling realistic physics is taken into...
متن کاملThe Radiation Environment of Exoplanet Atmospheres
Exoplanets are born and evolve in the radiation and particle environment created by their host star. The host star’s optical and infrared radiation heats the exoplanet’s lower atmosphere and surface, while the ultraviolet, extreme ultraviolet and X-radiation control the photochemistry and mass loss from the exoplanet’s upper atmosphere. Stellar radiation, especially at the shorter wavelengths, ...
